Erap names Isko Manila’s ‘traffic czar’

MANILA, Philippines - Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada designated Vice Mayor Isko Moreno yesterday as the city’s “traffic czar.”

Moreno, who will head the Manila Traffic Council, is supposed to address the city’s problems with traffic flow, illegal vendors and illegal terminals, among others.

Diego Cagahastian, the city’s public information officer, said Moreno’s function would cover everything that affects the flow of traffic.

Estrada appointed Moreno “because between them Moreno is more familiar with the city’s traffic concerns, including the problem on illegal terminals,” Cagahastian said.

Improving the flow of vehicular traffic in the city was one of the promises made by Estrada and Moreno during the campaign period.

Moreno will be assisted by Don Carter Logica, his newly appointed chief of the Manila Traffic Parking Bureau; and Chief Inspector Olivia Sagaysay, the new chief of the Manila Police District’s traffic unit.

Sagaysay replaced Superintendent Reynaldo Nava, whom Estrada accused of extorting money from vendors.
