MANILA, Philippines - Former President Joseph Estrada on Tuesday said the camp of re-electionist Mayor Alfredo Lim is desperate to remove him from the mayoralty race in Manila.
Estrada issued the statement after Lim’s lawyer, Alicia Risos-Vidal, filed a petition with the Supreme Court (SC) questioning the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) dismissing with finality her disqualification complaint against the former president.
The Comelec second division said Vidal’s complaint is “glaringly similar or intertwined†with the disqualification cases filed against Estrada when he ran for president in 2010.
“That’s a desperate attempt to remove me from the mayoralty race. I can also file a disqualification case against Lim, but I decided not to because I want the people to decide on May 13,†Estrada said.
