BuCor to raid Bilibid inmates’ cells for weapons

MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Corrections will hold raid cells in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) maximum security compound to search for weapons hidden by inmates, BuCor director Franklin Bucayu said yesterday.

Staging raids is among the measures being undertaken to prevent inmates from using improvised knives to attack fellow inmates, Bucayo said in an interview aired over radio station dzMM.

He said the man who stabbed four inmates, killing two and wounding two others Thursday used an improvised knife. The attack was in retaliation for an inmate who was killed last week after he attacked jail guards in the maximum security facility.
