MANILA, Philippines - A former security guard, dismissed for drug addiction, allegedly shot two of his former colleagues, killing one and wounding the other, in Pasig City yesterday.
A manhunt has been launched for Wilfred Onal of Tabuk, Kalinga province, according to city police chief Senior Superintendent Mario Rariza.
He said Michael Geguira, 26, died on the spot from gunshot wounds in the chest and back while his fellow guard, Carlos dela Cruz, 52, was listed as in serious condition at the Pasig City General Hospital after being shot in the face and body.
Rariza said Geguira and De la Cruz, both of the Star Special Watchman & Detective Agency Inc., were hired to secure a vacant lot meant for a sewerage treatment plant project in Barangay Pinagbuhatan.
Geguira replaced Onal last Thursday after the security agency found him hooked on illegal drugs.
Police Officer 3 Miguel Torallo said Onal arrived at the compound’s barracks at past 1 a.m. yesterday and was allowed inside by the two victims because he was a former colleague. Onal got hold of the service firearms of the two victims, which he used in shooting them.
Torallo said he recovered at the scene of the crime an empty 12-gauge shotgun and several shells of a .38 caliber revolver.
Rariza said they are eyeing revenge as the motive behind the attack. The security agency is coordinating with the local police in hunting down Onal, he said.
