MANILA, Philippines - Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim yesterday gave the father of Kristel Tejada, the University of the Philippines-Manila student who committed suicide after failing to pay her tuition, a job in the city government.
Christopher Tejada will be assigned at the department of public services, headed by engineer Armand Andres.
He was accompanied by his wife, Blessilda, and their three younger children to a flag-raising ceremony at the city hall when he accepted the job previously offered by Lim when he went to Kristel’s wake in Sta. Cruz, Manila.
It was reported that Kristel’s woes stemmed from her family’s dire financial condition – her mother is a plain housewife while her father is a part-time cab driver with no steady income.
Lim handed P10,000 financial assistance to the Tejadas during the wake and offered to shoulder the P40,000 they incurred for the funeral services and Kristel’s coffin.
