26 nabbed in jueteng raids

MANILA, Philippines - Twenty-six persons were arrested in raids on two houses in Novaliches Tuesday night as part of the city police’s drive against illegal gambling, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Senior Superintendent Richard Albano said yesterday.

Superintendent Crisostomo Mendoza, commander of the QCPD Station 4, said his policemen and operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office arrested 20 persons, believed to be working under a certain Tony Santos, and seized bet money and jueteng paraphernalia at a house in Barangay Sauyo at past 5 p.m.

Mendoza said that at past 8 p.m., police officers raided the house of Mariano Gagal, 57, in Barangay San Bartolome. Gagal and five other persons were arrested as police confiscated P1,000 worth of bet money and gambling paraphernalia.
