MANILA, Philippines - Police are baffled over the shooting of a 47-year-old widower in Mandaluyong City at dawn yesterday.
Ma. Luisa Salazar was found in a pool of blood in her room at Welfareville Compound in Barangay Addition Hills at 3 a.m. She bore a gunshot wound in the chest.
Salazar was listed in critical condition at the Mandaluyong City Medical Center.
Senior Police Officer 2 Disilito Custodio of the Criminal Investigation Unit said they are facing a blank wall in their probe as there was no sign of forced entry into the victim’s house.
The victim’s daughter, Rea Lindo, told investigators that she was roused from sleep and heard her mother shouting for help.
“I found her crying and asking for help as blood kept on flowing from her chest wound,†she said.
With the help of their neighbors, Lindo rushed her mother to the hospital.
Responding policemen recovered a spent shell and a slug from a caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene.
Police ruled out robbery as the possible motive behind the shooting of Salazar as no valuables were reported missing.
