MANILA, Philippines - A Liberal Party (LP) supporter and former campaign coordinator was shot shortly after the proclamation rally of Team PNoy candidates in Plaza Miranda Tuesday night.
Yassen Ibrahim, 49, a businessman and caretaker of the Golden Mosque in Globo de Oro in Quiapo, suffered two gunshot wounds in the chest and taken to the Manila Medical Center for treatment.
Ibrahim was standing at the corner of Barbosa and R. Hidalgo streets at 7:30 p.m. when an unidentified man shot him at close range, according to Superintendent Ricardo Layug, Manila Police District (MPD) Station 3 commander.
The gunman escaped after incident.
Layug said politics had nothing to do with shooting incident. He said investigators are looking into business rivalry as the possible motive behind the killing.
