MANILA, Philippines - A teenager who went to his relatives’ house to help fix their kitchen sink was hacked to death by his cousin, reported to be mentally ill, in Quezon City Thursday afternoon.
Allan Bautista, 19, died at the Fairview General Hospital at around 5 p.m. Thursday after he sustained a hack wound in the neck.
Quezon City Police District director Senior Superintendent Richard Albano said they have in custody Bautista’s cousin, Adonis Matutina, 32.
Police Officer 2 Marlon dela Vega said village watchmen responded to Matutina’s house and arrested the suspect, who still held the bolo he used to attack his cousin.
The suspect’s mother, Emma, told police he was mentally ill and had been confined in a mental institute. Matutina had been visiting the mental institute for check-up every month and taking maintenance medicine everyday, she said.
Matutina was sitting at the front door and reportedly hacked Bautista in the neck with the bolo. The teenager managed to run toward his sister’s house nearby, but lost consciousness along the way.
Dela Vega said that the bolo used by the suspect belonged to the Matutina family and was always kept in the kitchen.
