‘Curiosity’ kills Japanese in Caloocan

MANILA, Philippines -  The “curiosity” of a 20-year-old Japanese led to his death when he and his two friends intervened in a commotion in Dagat-Dagatan, Caloocan City before dawn yesterday, according to police.

Kenichi Iwase Jr., was drinking with his friends Joselito Sicat and Heroly Magmayo in front of King Rhum bar in Letre when they saw three men running away from the place.

Iwase’s group, without any idea as to the reason behind the commotion, ran toward the men and started beating them. A melee broke out, with Iwase’s group throwing stones at the three, said Police Officer 3 Eduardo Ronquillo.

“Iwase’s group was drunk. They were just curious when they ran toward these people. Maybe, they thought these people were robbers,” Ronquillo said.

Iwase got hold of Rommel Delvo while Sicat captured Marlon Cinco. A third man, still unidentified, ran toward Dagat-Dagatan Avenue, prompting Iwase to chase him. The man shot Iwase.

Cinco and Delvo were arrested and claimed that they do not know the gunman. Ronquillo said Cinco and Delvo will be charged with homicide.
