MANILA, Philippines - Two men carrying weapons were arrested on Wednesday night in Quezon City after one of them posed as a policeman and his companion turned out to be a robbery suspect.
Benedict Roque, 29, and Rowel Marquez, 30, were initially accosted at a checkpoint in Barangay Veterans Village for riding a motorcycle without wearing helmets, Superintendent Pedro Sanchez, commander of the Quezon City Police District Station 2, said.
Roque reportedly told police officers that he was a member of the Manila Police District, but could not present an identification card, Sanchez said. Marquez turned out to be a robbery suspect out on bail from the Quezon City Jail, he added.
Sanchez said the two men had bladed weapons tucked into their waistbands. They face charges of illegal possession and usurpation of authority, he said.
