MANILA, Philippines - Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada called on the Philippine National Police (PNP) yesterday to double its efforts to arrest a couple accused of maltreating their former housemaid in Quezon City.
Estrada made the call after the Senate sergeant-at-arms failed to serve an arrest order issued by the Senate against Annaliza Marzan and her husband, Reynold. He expressed hope that newly installed National Capital Region Police Office director Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina will prioritize the case.
The Senate committee on labor and employment, chaired by Estrada, had conducted an inquiry into the alleged physical abuses suffered by Bonita Baran, who has been left blind and disfigured.
