MANILA, Philippines - A drunken man was hauled to jail for the death of his two-month-old son in Quezon City over the weekend.
Case officer Senior Police Officer 1 Johnny Mahilum identified the suspect as Mark Renil Galme, 30, a resident of Barangay Ramon Magsaysay. He will be slapped with parricide charges, Mahilum said.
Police said the incident happened while the victim’s mother was out working.
Galme told police investigators that the infant was no longer breathing when he found him lying in his crib at 10 p.m. Sunday, prompting him to call his wife to bring their baby to the hospital.
However, the baby died before reaching the JP Sioson Hospital, also in Quezon City.
Attending physicians said the infant bore contusions in the body, hematoma in the jaw area and abrasions in the neck - an indication that he was strangled.
Galme denied killing his baby.
