MANILA, Philippines - The Luneta Seafarers Welfare Foundation (LUSWELF), a non-government organization managing the Luneta Seafarer’s Center along T.M. Kalaw Avenue in Manila, asked the help of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) in identifying illegal recruiters targeting jobseekers at the one-stop shop for seamen.
The Luneta Seafarer’s Center gives Filipino seafarers and representatives of local manning agencies a venue for the promotion of job vacancies in the maritime industry, although the formal recruitment process happens at the offices of manning agencies.
LUSWELF administrator Anfred Yulo is asking the POEA to banish illegal recruiters from the venue. The center was nominated in 2010 by the International Committee on Seafarers Welfare as one of the best seafarer’s centers in the world.
