Cop facing robbery raps gunned down in Tondo

Manila, Philippines -  One of the three policemen charged with robbery and subsequently relieved last April was gunned down in Manila’s Tondo district yesterday morning.

Killed was Police Officer 3 Reynaldo Olivo Jr.

Case investigator SPO4 Dennis Javier said Olivo was with his child when the suspect approached him and shot him at the corner of Masinop and Cristobal streets in Tondo.

Olivo and two other members of the Manila Police District-Station 5 were slapped with robbery before the Makati prosecutor’s office by a Japanese man whom they allegedly arrested and robbed of P150,000 in cash and valuables on April 5.

MPD director Chief Superintendent Alex Gutierrez ordered the conduct of summary dismissal proceedings against them following their arrest.

Olivo was out on bail, according to police. Investigators are looking at the victim’s previous cases as the possible motive behind the killing.

Probers are also investigating if Olivo’s killing had something to do with the shootout in Baseco Compound that left four suspected robbers dead on Wednesday.
