Manila, Philippines - The body of an alleged member of a crime gang was stuffed in a cardboard box and dumped along a dimly lit road in Caloocan City at past midnight yesterday.
Police said Jessie Tamayo, 33, a resident of Malabon City, was hit on the head with a blunt object, stabbed in the right shoulder and strangled. They said he was killed somewhere else.
Jun Jariol, 48, leader of a village volunteer peacekeeping group, said tricycle drivers found Tamayo’s body along Torsillo street in Barangay 28 at around 2 a.m.
He said the victim was hogtied and had a nylon cord still looped around his neck. The victim was clad only in his underwear.
Jariol said a message written on the box warned that “Danny Toyo” would be next. Sources said Tamayo allegedly belonged to Toyo’s gang, whose members are linked to at least 20 killings in the Camanava (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela) area, including the murder of a bodyguard of Malabon City Mayor Canuto Oreta.
They said that Toyo’s gang is tied to a number of robbery with homicide cases in Camanava and Toyo is also responsible for the proliferation of illegal drugs in both areas. They said Toyo often eluded arrest because he has the “right connections.”
