MANILA, Philippines - A grandson of former defense secretary Rafael Ileto was shot by a security guard following a scuffle at a supermarket in Quezon City Friday afternoon.
Florante Ileto, 28, suffered gunshot wounds in his upper left arm and left hand during the incident, which occurred along Congressional Avenue in Barangay Bahay Toro at around 3 p.m. He is confined at Cardinal Santos Hospital.
Security guard Jomar Tamayo Jr. is now the subject of a manhunt and will be charged with frustrated homicide, said Superintendent Mon de Guzman, commander of the Quezon City Police District-Station 3.
Prior to the confrontation, Ileto had reportedly bought items from shops outside the supermarket, De Guzman said. After this, he went to the supermarket’s baggage counter to deposit the items he had earlier bought.
De Guzman said Tamayo refused to accept the bag containing the items. This resulted in an argument that led to a scuffle, during which Ileto was shot.
