MANILA, Philippines - Eastern Police District (EPD) director Chief Superintendent Miguel Laurel has provided “area security” to reporter Fernan Angeles to prevent another attack on him.
Laurel directed Superintendent Alfredo Calama-an, Pasig City police officer-in-charge, to patrol Barangay Pinagbuhatan, where Angeles and his wife, Gemma, are residing.
The EPD director’s decision came after Angeles said he has no plans of leaving their house in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, where he was shot by suspected members of a drug syndicate last March. He said he ordered the patrols after Angeles said several of his attackers are still roaming the area.
One of the suspects, Faisal Sangcopan, surrendered and was charged with frustrated murder before the Pasig City prosecutor’s office.
Laurel said he cannot give personal security to Angeles because “it is the job of the Police Security and Protection Group in Camp Crame.”
