MANILA, Philippines - A brother of action star Robin Padilla is facing charges for allegedly threatening to shoot a man and lob a grenade at the complainant’s house in 2003.
The criminal indictment against Roy “Royette” Cariño Padilla was received on Wednesday by the Office of the Clerk of Court of the Quezon City metropolitan trial court.
The case was based on a three-page resolution of Assistant City Prosecutor Rafael Villordon, who resolved alternating complaints filed by Padilla and Johnny Solevilla.
Villordon said “bail is not necessary unless required by the court.”
Padilla filed a complaint for illegal discharge of firearms and oral defamation against Solevilla, who filed a case for oral defamation, alarm and scandal, and grave threats.
Padilla, also a former actor, is a resident of West Fairview.
Both complaints stemmed from a Feb. 12, 2003 incident when Padilla went to Solevilla’s house in Barangay San Antonio to meet the latter’s daughter, Ivonne.
In his resolution, Villordon found probable cause to charge Padilla, who allegedly threatened to harm Solevilla at his house.
“The said threats amount to a crime of arson and murder, and the threats were not subject to a condition,” the resolution stated.
He dismissed the complaint against Solevilla for lack of probable cause and insufficiency of evidence, but also dismissed Solevilla’s complaint for alarm and scandal and oral defamation, also for lack of probable cause.
In his complaint, Padilla said he arrived at 1 a.m. at the latter’s house when he heard the other man cursing him in Filipino as Padilla was pressing the doorbell to ask for Ivonne.
But Solevilla had a different version, claiming Padilla allegedly shouted invectives at him. He claimed Padilla threatened to shoot him and hurl a grenade at his residence.
