MANILA, Philippines - A 28-year-old man was beaten by angry mob after they reportedly caught him in the act of stealing a tricycle in Caloocan City Saturday.
Marvin Galuran, a resident of Lerma Extension, Caloocan City, yielded a tricycle (NI-7127) owned by Rex Manzano, 32, when cornered by bystanders along 7th Avenue at around 1 a.m.
Police Officer 2 Conrado Torres Sr. said Genaro Borja saw the suspect tinkering with Manzano’s tricycle, parked in front of the victim’s house on Tambacol street in Dagat-Dagatan.
Borja confronted the suspect but Galuran was able to start the engine and speed off with the tricycle. Borja asked for help from other tricycle drivers in the area and they chased the suspect until they cornered him along Rizal Avenue Extension on 7th Avenue.
The drivers, joined by several bystanders, beat up the suspect but the commotion caught the attention of the a police patrol team led by Police Officer 3 Cesar Garcia.
The police officers intervened and rescued the semi-conscious Galuran from the irate mob. Torres said the police officers initially thought the commotion was a simple street fight but later learned that Galuran was caught while fleeing with a stolen tricycle. They put him under arrest.
