MANILA, Philippines - A two-year-old boy and his one-year-old sister died after being sideswiped by a train in Barangay Magallanes, Makati City yesterday.
Superintendent Jaime Santos said siblings Mark Joseph and Donnabelle, both surnamed Glori, were walking behind their 18-year-old mother, Luisa, in the middle of the Philippine National Railways tracks when a northbound train arrived at around 12:38 p.m.
The children ran near a wall, where Luisa chased them after she realized they were in danger, police said. She reached the children but all of them were sideswiped by the train as it passed by.
“A portion of Donnabelle’s face was crushed, while her brother also sustained head injuries,” Santos said. He described the siblings as “very tiny.”
Luisa survived and is recovering at the Makati Medical Center. According to Santos, Luisa is from Cabuyao, Laguna and was in Makati yesterday to visit her husband.
