Man loses forearm in LRT suicide try

MANILA, Philippines - Left by his wife and two children, a man lost his left forearm when he jumped in front of an oncoming train at the Light Rail Transit (LRT) station in Cubao yesterday morning.

Police Officer 3 Harold Polistico said barker Redito Alfredo, 29, who resides at the MRB Building in Barangay Escopa 3, Project 4, was hit by the train but survived when he fell into the space between the railway tracks at past 10 a.m. His left forearm fell across the track and was severed by the train.

Polistico said the incident disrupted LRT operations for more than an hour. He said Alfredo was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center, where he is confined.

Alfredo told the police that before his suicide attempt, he found no one home when he arrived that morning. He learned from relatives that his wife had packed her bags and brought their children with her.

Alfredo also said his family had been having financial problems since he only works as a barker.
