3 rob suspects nabbed at Navotas fish port

MANILA, Philippines - Three suspected robbers, including two boys, were arrested for allegedly robbing a fish trader’s vehicle last week at the fish port complex in Navotas City, an official said yesterday.

Senior Superintendent Ronaldo Escobar Olay, chief of the National Capital Region-Maritime Police Office in Navotas City, said the boys, aged 14 and 16, were turned over to the custody of the local social welfare personnel.

The third suspect, Gilbert Gargoles, 28, a resident of Barangay Bangkulasi also in Navotas City, was charged with robbery before Assistant City Prosecutor Ojer Pacis.

Olay said fish trader Rosalyn Magallanes, 25, was transacting business at Market 1 of the fish port complex at around 10 p.m. on June 2 when she noticed four men forcing open the front door of her Mitsubishi L300 van.

The suspects fled with Magallanes’ bag containing P35,000, 500 Canadian dollars, cell phones and personal documents, but were caught by a police patrol team Olay asked for help.

Police recovered the victim’s bag, which contained two cell phones, 200 Canadian dollars, P6,540 and her identification cards.
