MANILA, Philippines - The Caloocan City government directed the leaders of its 188 barangays yesterday to form their respective risk reduction teams in preparation for possible disasters during the rainy season.
Mayor Enrico Echiverri said each barangay must have its own rescue team so that it could quickly respond to the needs of the residents during typhoons, earthquakes or fires.
He ordered national barangay league president Ricojudge Echiverri to spearhead the program.
“Proper preparation for any disaster assures that we will able to respond efficiently and save lives and property,” Echiverri said.
He urged residents to join the rescue teams “for the opportunity to assist their neighbors” when the need arises. He said volunteers will undergo rescue and first aid training.
