CAAP investigating aircraft insurance system

MANILA, Philippines -   The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines is now conducting a”full blown investigation” into the insurance payment of all aircraft being used by local flying schools and small aviation firms.

Ramon Gutierrez, CAAP director-general, has ordered the probe into the insurance coverage of all registered aircraft being used in the country’s airspace after the discovery of fake insurance coverage of a small Bulacan-based flying school, Delta Air International Air Academy, Inc. Gutierrez had ordered CAAP special investigator and dangerous goods inspector Cesar Lucero, to dig deeper into the alleged fake insurance policy on Delta Air International Air Academy’s six aircraft.

It was learned that in a recent check on the registration papers of Delta Air International Air Academy, the aviation hull and liabilities” policy of the flying school’s six aircraft were found to be a “counterfeit policy” as confirmed by the supposed insurer, Makati City based insurance firm, Solid Guaranty, Inc.

The submission of the aviation hull and liabilities policy of Delta Air International Air Academy, Lucero said was in a requirement for the renewal of the flying school’s approved training organization certificate, issued to all licensed flying schools. “This is a serious matter because aircraft insurance is very important especially in cases when these are involved in accidents and there are third parties that have to be compensated,” Lucero said.

Earlier, the country has suffered a series of tragic air mishaps involving small aircraft, the last incident occurring last Sunday when a light plane crashed in the grounds of Camp John Hay in Baguio City.
