MANILA, Philippines - The body of a 20-year-old man who jumped into the Pasig River two days ago after a quarrel with his girlfriend was fished out yesterday in Pasig City.
A group of fishermen found the bloated body of Mark Roldan, a resident of No. 1121 Sitio Kumunoy, in barangay San Miguel, floating in the murky waters of the Pasig River.
Roldan’s father, Biterbo, 52, said his son did not know how to swim. The elder Roldan said his son could have jumped into the river after a bitter quarrel with his girlfriend, a certain Baby.
Police prober Lardy Ignacio said the younger Roldan and his girlfriend were seen engaged in a heated argument in Barangay San Miguel at about 11 p.m. on Feb. 28. At the height of the altercation, Roldan went atop a bridge and jumped into the river.
Ignacio said the girlfriend did not see Roldan jumping into the water and thought he only went home.
The parents of the victim thought all along that Roldan was staying in the company of his girlfriend until they heard the sad news yesterday.
Ignacio said a closed-circuit television camera caught Roldan jumping into the river.
Police recovered in the area the victim’s shoes and t-shirt, which Roldan took off before committing suicide.
