MANILA, Philippines - A tricycle driver and a fifth grader were shot dead by two men riding tandem on a motorcycle in Marikina City Saturday night.
Police said the attack on Romy Silao may be linked to his past incarceration for a drug case.
Silao was parking his tricycle in front of his house on Bagong Silang street in Barangay Parang when his attackers, riding a white MIO motorcycle, approached him. The back rider shot at him at close range at around 10:45 p.m. A stray bullet hit Lace Justin Lira, 11, in the head. Lira had been playing in the street at the time.
Silao suffered several gunshot wounds and was declared dead on arrival at the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center while Lira died while being operated on at the St. Vincent Hospital.
Investigators recovered nine shells from a .9mm automatic pistol at the crime scene. Police launched a manhunt for the two gunmen.
