MANILA, Philippines - Indigent families in Navotas City will at least be assured of receiving something special again from the city government this holiday season – a kilo of ham for the traditional noche buena.
Navotas Mayor John Rey Tiangco has directed the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to lead the traditional “Ham for the Poor” program of the city.
Now on its 10th year, the city government has allocated P1 million for the project, which will benefit almost 8,000 poor families to be given today starting at 1 p.m., to be held at the city hall ground in line with the conduct of the “Share-a-Blessing” program this Christmas.
Tickets will be distributed to the indigent families after a thorough screening and coordination with barangay officials.
CSWDO head Pat Agcaoili said that it has been a tradition for the past years that this local government is into a Share-a-Blessing program. “This year our programs are concentrated under the theme, “Navotaas, itaas ang antas ng buhay Navoteño,” Agcaoili said.
“We really wanted the Navoteños to feel the spirit of Christmas. After all the challenges that beset our country, still there are many good reasons to thank the Lord and to hope for a wonderful New Year,” Tiangco said.
