BI promotes honest immigration officer

MANILA, Philippines – Bureau of Immigration (BI) officer-in-charge Ronaldo Ledesma yesterday promoted an honest employee who decided to return $10,000 left by a departing passenger even if he needed the money to pay for the treatment of his mother, who is suffering from stage four cancer.

Ledesma promoted immigration officer Amando Amisola to the rank of supervisor for being honest and showing a deep sense of professionalism when he returned the $10,000 to Francisco Patricio.

“Your honesty and integrity are the clearest indication yet that we now have in the Bureau of Immigration a cadre of young employees and officials whose sense of professionalism is unquestioned and beyond doubt,” Ledesma said in yesterday’s ceremony honoring Amisola at the BI headquarters.

Amisola never hesitated to return the money when he found it, the BI said in a statement. – Evelyn Macairan, Rudy Santos
