Ivler taken to hospital for checkup

MANILA, Philippines - Road rage suspect Jason Ivler was taken to a Quezon City hospital for a medical checkup yesterday afternoon, as ordered by a Quezon City court last week.

Quezon City Jail (QCJ) sources said a “docile” Ivler was in handcuffs when he was examined at the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) under heavy security. “He stayed there for less than an hour. We are only following the orders of the court allowing for his medical examination,” said The STAR source.

From the QCJ, Ivler was taken to the hospital at around 1:30 p.m. and was soon brought back to his cell at the international section of the city jail.

Judge Bayani Vargas of Regional Trial Court Branch 219 last week ordered QCJ warden Superintendent Nestor Velasquez to bring Ivler to the hospital to seek medical treatment for his deteriorating colostomy, which was performed on him as a result of the wounds he sustained in a firefight with National Bureau of Investigation agents last year.

The court directed Velasquez to “bring Ivler to the hospital under full security and bring him back to the jail after the medical treatment.”

Vargas reportedly issued the order after Ivler’s lawyer said the suspect was suffering from “bleeding and (his) intestines were coming out.”
