Malabon carjack suspect slain in shootout

MANILA, Philippines – An alleged member of a dreaded carjack gang who beat up a beautician before taking her pickup truck in Malabon City last week was killed in an encounter with Meycauayan, Bulacan policemen, an official said yesterday.

Chief Inspector Redyie Aldueso, Malabon City police anti-carnapping unit chief, said Edwin Madrigal, alias Rommel Gabriel, is reportedly a member of the Raymond Dominguez carjack group operating in the National Capital Region and in Regions 3 and 4.

Beautician Roana Angeline Cipriano, 25, identified Madrigal as one of the three gunmen who barged into her garage in Malabon City at around 4:45 a.m. Thursday and took her gray Toyota Hilux pickup truck (ZTS-597) after beating her up, Aldueso said.

At around 10 a.m. of the same day, the Bulacan Highway Patrol Group engaged an armed man onboard a silver Toyota Rav 4 in a shootout along Malhacan Road in Meycauayan. The armed man, later identified as Madrigal, was killed.

The police, however, failed to recover Cipriano’s vehicle.
