MANILA, Philippines – A call center agent was arrested by Manila police yesterday for allegedly uploading on Facebook, a social networking site, a video of him and his ex-girlfriend having sex.
The suspect, 20-year-old Edwardson Base, was arrested by Chief Inspector Marcelo Reyes, chief of the Manila Police District-General Assignment Section (MPD-GAS), at a Manila mall following a complaint filed by the ex-girlfriend.
The victim, a college student whose name was withheld, told investigators she had a relationship with Base after four years of being textmates.
She said Base had recorded their intimate moments in his cell phone, but she asked him to delete the video. She said he showed her he had deleted the video, but she did not know he had saved a copy of it.
Last May, she broke up with the suspect because her parents disapproved of their relationship. She then entertained another suitor.
The victim learned last July 16 that her former lover uploaded the video of their private moments on the Internet and even sent it to friends and professors at their school, police said.
She confronted the suspect, who told her to meet him at a mall to explain his side, Reyes added. The victim agreed to meet her but asked for police assistance.
As Base met the victim, Reyes arrested the suspect. Base is currently detained at the MPD headquarters, awaiting charges of violation of Republic Act 9262 (Anti-Violence against Women and Children Act) and RA 9995 (Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009).
Actress Katrina Halili filed similar charges against her former lover, Hayden Kho, a celebrity doctor who has been stripped of his license to practice medicine, for allegedly filming their intimate moments without her knowledge. The case is pending in court.
