MANILA, Philippines - Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri directed yesterday the city’s entire police force to intensify its security campaign in order to attract more investors to the city.
He ordered Superintendent Florendo Quibuyen, the city police officer-in-charge, to set up checkpoints in key areas “to strike fear” in criminals.
“We could easily convince traders to put up more businesses in our city knowing that they are safe,” Echiverri said.
He also told Quibuyen to beef up security patrols in areas where robberies are common and to “put to good use” patrol vehicles provided by the local government in making rounds, particularly along the city borders.
He assured the local police there would be more equipment for them to perform their duties efficiently.
He said that barangay officials would also do their part in maintaining peace and order in their respective villages.
Meanwhile, Chief Superintendent Rodolfo Magtibay, newly installed Northern Police District (NPD) director, said he would also encourage volunteerism among residents to strengthen his command’s anti-crime drive.
“I will direct our cops to recruit a barangay volunteer who would help them monitor peace and order in their community by giving the police information only through text,” Magtibay said.
He said that one of his thrusts is to make police officers more visible in Camanava (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela) “to better serve and protect the public.”
