MANILA, Philippines - Two tricycle drivers were shot dead two hours apart in the same neighborhood in Quezon City.
Police identified the victims as Martin Mamauag, 36; and Romeo Belena, 44.
Police Officer 3 Jaime Jimena said both men were gunned down while driving their vehicles along Luzon Avenue in Garcia Heights. There were no witnesses in both cases.
Mamauag’s friend, Jaime Pahamunde, told police he was at home when he heard several gunshots at around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
When he went out to check, Pahamunde said he saw Mamauag slumped in the driver’s seat of his tricycle. He told the victim’s relatives, who rushed him to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Pahamunde said he returned home and was about to sleep when he heard another gunshot at around 12:30 a.m. yesterday. He and other residents went out and found that Belena’s tricycle crashed into a parked taxicab.
Belena himself was shot in the head and slumped in the driver’s seat of his tricycle, they said.
