1 dead, 1 hurt in Caloocan stabbing spree

MANILA, Philippines - Police are hunting down an alleged drug dependent who went on a stabbing spree, killing his neighbor and seriously wounding another in Caloocan City Thursday night.

Superintendent Florendo Quibuyen, the city police acting chief, identified the suspect as Gaudencio Bracino, a resident of DM compound in Barangay 73.

Police said Bracino, apparently high on drugs, first stabbed dead Remegio Labrague, 38, while the victim was walking along Rizal Avenue Extension at around 9 p.m.

Bracino escaped after the incident by riding on a tricycle driven by Jerry Castillo, 27, also a resident of Barangay 73.

But upon reaching 10th Avenue, Bracino ordered Castillo to stop and give him his slippers. The driver ignored him.

An irate Bracino stabbed Castillo several times before fleeing

The two victims were brought to the President Diosdado Macapagal Memorial Medical Center for treatment. Labrague died while Castillo was still confined at the same hospital yesterday.
