MANILA, Philippines - Three armed robbers shot dead a polio victim and wounded three others during a noontime robbery just outside a shipyard in Tanza Kaliwa, Navotas City Sunday, police said yesterday.
Navotas police chief Superintendent Bernard Tambaoan said Joy Teodoro, who was carrying an undetermined amount of money in a bag, was riding a pedicab driven by Robert Sanchez when they were accosted by three men riding a motorcycle near the Melita shipyard.
Teodoro held on to the bag when two of the robbers tried to grab it. He was shot in the head pointblank, police said. The robbers also shot Sanchez in the right knee.
Security guards Antonio Jonathan and Bernardo Alger, who were on duty at the shipyard, came out to investigate. The robbers shot at them, hitting Jonathan in the right thigh and Alger in the leg.
The robbers then boarded the motorcycle and sped towards Malabon City. Police said the robbers fit the description provided by victims of previous robberies in the area.
