MANILA, Philippines – The Navotas local government allocated P1.5 million to buy hams for 10,000 poor families that will be distributed on Dec. 22.
“The less privileged and indigent families will at least be assured of receiving something special again from the city government this holiday season,” Mayor Toby Tiangco said. “We really wanted the Navoteños to feel the spirit of Christmas,” Tiangco said.
He said that despite recent disasters that beset the country, “still there are many good reasons to thank the Lord for and to hope for a wonderful New Year.”
Tiangco directed the city social welfare and development office chief Pat Agcaoili to lead the traditional distribution of a kilo of ham to the residents at 1 p.m. at the city hall grounds.
He said barangay leaders were tasked to distribute tickets to the recipients to make sure that the ham would go to the intended beneficiary.
Tiangco said a Christmas party for the 1,465 local government workers would be held on Dec. 18. – Pete Laude
