MANILA, Philippines - Will there be a four-cornered fight in Pasay City’s mayoralty race, with incumbent Mayor Peewee Trinidad seeking a second term?
Aside from Trinidad, The STAR gathered that the three other hopefuls are incumbent Vice Mayor Antonio Calixtro, former Pasay City congresswoman Connie Dy and former policeman Ricardo “Ding” Santos.
Trinidad is set to file his certificate of candidacy on Monday.
In January 2007, the Office of the Ombudsman ordered the ouster of Trinidad, Calixto and 10 councilors after they were charged in 2006 for approving a multimillion-peso garbage contract without conducting a public bidding.
The case was considered forgotten after Trinidad and Calixtro won as mayor and vice mayor of Pasay City in the May 2007 elections.
A source said the four-cornered fight in Pasay would give Trinidad the advantage over his reported rivals.
Officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said they will finalize the list of hotspots and areas of concern for the coming elections after all the candidates have filed their certificates of candidacy on Dec. 1. The filing of COCs starts today. – Cecille Suerte Felipe
