Cop hurt in Quezon City shooting

MANILA, Philippines - Police are now searching for a man who shot at a police officer’s legs just as the latter was alighting from a police vehicle in Quezon City early yesterday morning.

Police Officer 3 Rommel Manibog, 32, and detailed at the Quezon City Police District - Mobile Patrol Unit (QCPD-MPU), was declared to be out of danger even though he remains confined at the St. Luke’s Medical Cener.

PO3 Edwin dela Cruz said Manibog and PO1 Stephen Hernandez were patrolling Quezon Avenue in front of the Sto. Domingo Church in a police car when they saw a taxi go through a red light at around 4:30 a.m.

Dela Cruz said the police officers signaled the driver to pull over but before just as they were alighting from the police car, someone from inside the taxi allegedly shot at Manibog, hitting his legs.

With his partner wounded, Hernandez decided to rush Manibog to the hospital instead of pursuing the shooter, who fled on board the same taxi. – Michael Punongbayan
