MANILA, Philippines - A 53-year-old female professor of the Jose Rizal University was dragged to her death yesterday by an armored van while reporting to work in Mandaluyong City.
The victim, Ma. Evelyn Uy, of Upper Sitio Cogeo, Antipolo City was pinned underneath the bumper of the armored van and dragged for at least 10 meters causing her injuries in different parts of the body. She was declared dead on arrival at the Lourdes Hospital.
Senior Inspector Elmer Rey Constantino, Mandaluyong City police traffic chief said Uy was walking at the corner of Shaw Blvd., and Magalona St., in front the SM Hypermart in Barangay Daang Bakal when hit by the armored van owned by the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) at about 10:30 a.m. yesterday.
Quoting witnesses, Constantino claimed that Uy was pinned underneath the van’s bumper and was dragged some 10 meters away before the vehicle came to a stop.
Elements of the Highway Patrol Group and local traffic enforcers flagged down the van (XKC 704) with body number CTK 3704.
The traffic enforcers aided by several bystanders pulled out Uy’s body underneath the van, said Constantino.
The van driver, Jordan Fesarillo, of 6A Peter St., Barangay Baesa, Quezon City left behind his driver’s license and continued with his trip towards Sta. Mesa, in Manila on grounds that he has to deliver his cash cargo.
Constantino said Fesarillo promised to surrender to him anytime today.
