Victim identifies 4 slain kidnap suspects

MANILA, Philippines – A Filipino-Chinese businessman who was rescued from his abductors identified four suspects killed during a shootout in Parañaque City Thursday as among those who kidnapped him.

Metro police director Chief Superintendent Roberto Rosales said Gerald Lao Tiu was kidnapped Wednesday in front of their residence in Quezon City and was rescued later that day in Rodriguez, Rizal province.

Tiu viewed the bodies of suspects Rogelio Ortega, 56; Alberto Choy, 42; Emmanuel Pineda, 54, and Eric Ogdol, 32, at the Misanis funeral parlor in Barangay Pulang Lupa, Las Piñas City.

Rosales said the four slain suspects managed to escape before the responding policemen arrived at their safehouse in Rodriguez.

He said the active sharing of information and good operational relationships among the Regional Intelligence Division (RID), National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Directorate for Integrated Police Operations (DIPO) Southern Tagalog Region and Police Anti-Crime Emergency Response (PACER) made Tiu’s swift rescue possible.

He said that shortly after Tiu’s rescue, NCRPO operatives received information that some of his abductors were escaping towards the Parañaque City area.

Joint police teams from PACER, NCRPO, RID, DIPO Southern Tagalog Region and the Parañaque City police setup a roadblock at the corner of Macapagal Boulevard and MIA Road. The firefight occurred after the four suspects, in a silver Nissan Sentra (TFR-968), sped through the roadblock. – Non Alquitran
