MANILA, Philippines – The Land Transportation Office will conduct random inspection on garages in Metro Manila to ensure that buses plying the Metro routes are road-worthy.
LTO chief Arturo Lomibao has ordered the chief of Motor Vehicles Inspection Service to carry out the inspection of all public utility bus garages to make sure that operators are maintaining their units properly. LTO spokesperson Merceditas Gutierrez said the order was given to LTO-Metro Manila office head Ricardo Tan directing him to order MVIS chief Joel Donato to conduct the random check of garages for the safety of the passengers.
“The order was issued because of the increasing incidents of passenger buses catching fire along Edsa and other major thoroughfares thus putting the lives of the passengers in danger” she said. Gutierrez’s team from the LTO-MVIS will be inspecting the garages of all bus companies operating in Metro Manila to make sure that the maintenance of their units are properly undertaken. – Perseus Echeminada
