SM pulls out Samuya food products

MANILA, Philippines - The SM Food Retail Group has pulled out the food products of Samuya Food Manufacturing, Inc. after the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) suspended the firm’s license.

Mylene Mendoza, spokesperson for SM Food Retail Group, said Yummy Sweet and Creamy Peanut Spread and Ludy’s Sweet and Creamy Peanut Butter, Coco Jam and Salabat have been withdrawn from the shelves of all the branches of SM Supermarket, Savemore Market, SM Hypermarket, and Makro.

Samuya’s license to operate as food manufacturer had been suspended by BFAD after its Yummy and Ludy’s products were found contaminated with salmonella.

Samuya can resume operation only when BFAD certifies that it has fully complied with “good manufacturing practice” requirements. – Sheila Crisostomo
