MANILA, Philippines - Two persons were killed in two separate stabbings in Quezon City around midnight yesterday.
Ice cream vendor Marlon Orpesa, 31, was stabbed 11 times at around 12:45 a.m. when he became unruly during a birthday celebration in Barangay Sangandaan. The suspects, Jessie Macanas, 40, also an ice cream vendor, and his cousin Sonny Dacallos, eluded arrest.
Senior Police Officer 2 Jun Mortel said an improvised 18-inch long icepick was found tucked into the victim’s waistband.
About 15 minutes later, another stabbing claimed the life of Jaime Maglipas, 41. He and his friends were hanging out at a basketball court in Barangay Commonwealth when widower Salustiano Tapalla, 70, allegedly stabbed the victim without provocation. Tapalla was allegedly drunk at the time, police said. – Michael Punongbayan
