MANILA, Philippines - As the country marked the third day of Fire Prevention Month yesterday, a fire triggered by faulty wiring gutted a bungalow worth P1 million and caused a woman to suffer a heart attack when the blaze threatened to spread to her house in San Juan.
Virginia Montero was rushed to the hospital at the height of the fire that hit the house of her neighbor, Crisencia Salangga, on G. Reyes street in Barangay Balumbato.
“She thought the fire would hit her residence because it was already near them so she suffered a heart attack,” a neighbor said.
Chief Inspector Edwin Co, San Juan Fire Station chief, said the fire started at about 9:27 a.m., when “something sparked” in the middle of Salangga’s house and started a fire. The caretaker of the house was not around when the fire broke out.
Co said the fire reached second alarm was placed under control at about 10 am. Arson investigators are still conducting an investigation of the incident. – Non Alquitran
