MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved yesterday a provisional 50-centavo fare cut for jeepneys in Metro Manila effective Monday.
LTFRB chairman Alberto Suansing told The STAR that the provisional fare cut would bring down the minimum fare of jeepneys to P7 for the first four kilometers and an additional P 1.40 for the succeeding kilometers.
He said a separate hearing will be held for provincial and city buses, which were not included in the recent reduction.
Suansing also clarified that the provisional fare cut is a partial resolution of the petition of the National Council for Commuters Protection (NCCP), which sought a minimum fare of P7 for jeepneys, and P8 for provincial and city buses across the country. – Perseus Echeminada
