Aguilar vows to beef up education program

Las Piñas City Mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar has vowed to strengthen the education program being implemented in the city after two students of the city’s college ranked No. 11 and No. 22. in the Certified Public Accountants Licensure Examinations held recently.

Aguilar lauded the new CPAs, led by Angelie Cristie Clemente (No. 22), along with Florencio Casay, Armando Dalisay, Jr., and  Mirasol Superales, board passers in the October 2008 examinations. All of them are scholars of the Dr. Filemon C. Aguilar Memorial College.

The new CPAs were among the recent graduates of DFCAMC, the first city college established under the leadership of Aguilar. DFCAMC today is one of the top performing colleges located in the southern part of Metro Manila. In the last May 2008 CPA Licensure Examinations, three graduates: Philip Fernandez (No. 11); Richard Ian Hilario; and Glaiza Pelobello were among the successful board passers.

The mayor noted the success of DFCAMC graduates who are also competitive compared with students from private colleges and universities, given the 52-percent passing rate of board takers coming from the school.

DFCAMC president Conrado Aguilar said that since 2002, 22 graduates are now succesful CPAs out of the 45 who took the licensure examinations from about 90 BS Accountancy graduates. Aguilar said he is proud of DFCAMC’s graduates and that despite their economic standing they were able to pass the rigorous examinations.

The city government, with its limited resources, made possible the building up of DFCAMC in adherence to good governance and in line with its program of providing quality but free education for the city’s youth.    – Rhodina Villanueva
