A total of 445 graduates received their diplomas during the first commencement exercises of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Taguig at the NBC Tent in Fort Bonifacio recently.
The city-run university has produced associate graduates in criminology (47), hotel and restaurant management (84), computer science (117), tourism (25), office administration (106), industrial technology (38), and marketing management (28). It was established in October 2006 with the objective of empowering the city’s underprivileged students.
Enrollees avail themselves of free tuition, and pay only P500 for miscellaneous fees. It is the first city-run university in the country to offer courses through the ladderized education program.
Taguig Mayor Sigfrido Tiñga is chairman of the university’s Board of Regents, while Vice Mayor George Elias is the university president.
Early this year, the university temporarily moved to Sunshine Mall at the FTI Complex in Barangay Western Bicutan, pending the completion of a new campus adjacent to the Taguig Justice Hall in Barangay Upper Bicutan next year. – Rhodina Villanueva
