A female motorcycle officer of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) was injured in an accident in Manila while doing high-speed escort duties for visiting United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.
The accident occurred at the corner of Roxas Boulevard and T.M. Kalaw Street when Police Officer 3 Edeliza Egan collided with fellow escort Senior Police Officer 2 Rudy Panlaqui at high speed. The two were escorting the UN Secretary General who just left the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City where he addressed the Global Forum on Migration and Development with President Arroyo.
Both Egan and Panlaqui were thrown off their motorcycles. Palace reporters covering the forum saw Egan lying on the street being surrounded by some PSG personnel, who were waiting for an ambulance.
Egan was brought to the Manila Doctors’ Hospital for treatment while Panlaqui suffered minor bruises.
“She suddenly made a right turn (to T.M. Kalaw) so we collided,” Panlaqui told reporters.
Ban earlier attended the wreathlaying ceremony at the monument of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal at the Rizal Park in Manila. His visit is the first by a UN Secretary General to the country in 29 years.
He attended a state dinner tendered in his honor at the Palace.
