350 pregnant women attend Caloocan's 'Buntis' congress

Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri yesterday led the convening of the local government’s 3rd Buntis Congress to effectively recognize the importance of safe pregnancy and childbirth.

According to Echiverri, this year’s gathering, attended by at least 350 expectant mothers, promoted a comprehensive information drive on fertility awareness, respect for life, birth spacing, birth control methods, and responsible parenthood.

City health officer Dr. Raquel So-Sayo said the annual Buntis Congress has been effective at meeting the needs of pregnant women and is now being considered by the Department of Health as one of the best practices of the city government.

She said that the city health department is planning to hold education, medical care, and advocacy programs to further promote the welfare of pregnant women in the city. – Pete Laude
